So what does one do with their free time? The time spent not fulfilling obligations. Time that you aren’t getting paid for. Too often those obligations tend and burn away any residual energy and life so who wants to spend what remains doing something that just feels like more work? Like learning something new, something that takes effort and doesn’t make you any dollars, Euro, or Yen.
Well we all end up doing what we want to do with that time. Personally I’ve always liked to stay busy so over the past few weeks I’ve taken it upon myself to learn a few new tricks and programs. Working extended hours plus putting in more time at the gym makes free time even more of a scarce commodity right now but still I soldier on.
Opening Photoshop and other Adobe programs for the first time can make someone run away screaming, I on the other hand welcomed the challenge of the limitless. While the picture above is admittedly amateur, I think it’s a good start. I’m excited to see what else I can create.
Even with little skill and absolutely NO formal training, surprisingly a few paying opportunities have already come my way with more possibly in the future. I honestly didn’t see that coming but knowledge (with hard work and determination) is power and in this case money.
With working knowledge of a DSLR camera, Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and now Adobe Illustrator, I can focus on creating even more than text composition, take more than photographs and shoot more than video. Perhaps I’ll create an archive or gallery of Photoshop and Illustrator projects here to chart progress. Double XP for me as I have a Photoshop license on my home and work computers so in essence, while I’m at work, I’m actually get paid to learn, practice and make silly things like this. Life is what you make it. Life is good.
